View From Via dei Fori Imperiali, Rome

Six weeks ago I posted a view from across the road of the Via die Fort Imperiali,

Now, here is what you see when you cross the road and look at the ruins of the Fori de Augusto, inaugurated in 2 B.C, forty years after Augustus vowed to build it.

The view is distorted by the change in perspective when taking a sweeping panorama on a phone, so imagine the buildings in a line rather than curving away at the extremities,

Caesar Augustus was born Gaius Octavius in 63 BC, and died in AD 14.

He was also known as Octavian, and was the first Roman emperor; reigning from 27 BC until his death, and is considered (says Wikipedia) one of the greatest leaders in human history.
