I asked the owner of the garden and they say it is Sir Cedric Morris rambling rose. I looked it up and the notes say is was discovered in a batch of Rosa glauca seedlings by the late Sir Cedric Morris of Hadleigh, Suffolk.
And from there to Rosa glauca “a species of rose native to the mountains of central and southern Europe, from Spanish Pyrenees east to Bulgaria, and north to Germany and Poland. It is also found as an introduced species as far north as Scandinavia and Finland.”

Thank you David! There is a type of Rose that grows wild along the ditches, hedgerows and in fallow fields near here which I’m almost certain is the one in your photo! Especially as, according to the growth habit described here:
(https://futureforests.ie/products/rosa-sir-cedric-morris) it only blooms once per year, but also has a lovely display of hips come later. Have been keeping my eye on them for a few years now and watching for a wee one to bring home. As they’ve already bloomed a week or so ago, will now be watching for those hips instead; )-
Can you take a cutting and root it? I imagine they take pretty easily if they grow wild?
