Before A Sunflower Opens

I learned that sunflowers have two kinds of flowers. There are the tiny disk flowers in the big disk in the middle where the seeds are formed, and big yellow ray flowers.

Behind the petals there are the green bracts or phyllaries – the ones that look like dancers curving and twisting.

  1. I love Sunflowers.
    Their stout stems
    Their scratchy leaves.
    Their never-ending flow

    Elegant form. Texture. Colour.
