The camera I had with me today is a fixed lens camera with a 35mm-equivalent lens. Therefore I was not going to get a close-up shot. It is definitely a cormorant (or a shag, but I think it is a cormorant) – and I have never seen one perched this high above ground – hence my interest in photographing it although it is more or less a squiggle in the scene.

It is strange to see one up in a tree!

  2. I’ve never seen that, and we have so many of them here. Once I saw a blue heron up in a tree, and that was a first for me too.

    1. I know what you mean. I first saw a heron in a tree on the Harewood estate near Leeds and it surprised me to see such a big bird in a tree.

  3. I live near here and I have seen these birds in this same tree several times, often in a group of three or four. Was very surprised at first too!
