The Church

Every time I cross the Links – the green expanse between Bruntsfield and the Meadows in Edinburgh – Barclay Viewforth Church drags my eyes to look at it.
The excess of the design, the dizzying spire.

Beautiful church and photo. The style reminds me of The Arches here, in our city … which is being turned into condominiums now, I believe.

    1. I wonder whether they shared the same architect?

There are lots of Italianate churches in Edinburgh. They have square bell towers and are light and simple. Quite a contrast to this one and the sheer excess of this one is what attracts and repulses me.

I honestly can’t see how they’ll turn this into a condo building LOL

        1. Yes, it’s the big windows that cause the problems. There’s rarely an elegant way to put a new floor in.

Amazing architecture! I’d love to see the interior.
