Phones Of New York

phones-on-the-street

Not surprisingly it was the man in the white suit that I wanted to photograph. I only vaguely saw that the people behind were on their phones. I had no real intention of capturing them in the little tableau that came about.

We were at the Grand Canyon this spring. It was a remarkably different experience this time than it was in the days before cell phones. In the ‘good old days’ most people spent a lot of time looking at the canyon, and a little bit of time taking pictures. This time, nearly everyone had a cell phone on a selfie stick. They spent a lot of time with their back to the canyon taking selfies and then dashing off to the next vantage point so they could do the same thing again…

    1. So true. Nothing is real unless the person is in a selfie.

Your description of the Grand Canyon makes me think of a selfie-taker saying ‘move back a bit, just a bit more…
