If it looked as pretty as this critically-endangered Bali Starling, would I eat it?

Yes indeed.
There’s more about the little sweetie and how he was brought back from the brink of extinction here on the Quillcards blog.

Ah, they needn’t be – they can parade the beautiful pale gold tips to their feathers!

Currently they are in their winter spotted plumage. We have three that have lost the flock (maybe also lost the plot) and are visiting our patio. Two, recently, spent time staring in wonder up at the falling snow. I’ve never noticed birds doing that. I bet they wondered if they were breadcrumbs!

I can hear the mythic origins of the story of how the Bali Starling lost his spots and became white after staring in wonder up at the falling snow….
