Vermeer’s Milkmaid

This is The milkmaid or The kitchen maid (Dutch: De melkmeid or Het melkmeisje) by Johannes Vermeer, painted around 1658.

The painting is in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

As you can see, there is an iPhone in both photos.

And no, I have no idea who the person is who is holding the iPhone in the first photo. it was just someone in front of the painting.

It would be nice to think that someone standing behind me photographed me standing with my iPhone and this person’s iPhone and the painting.

The second photo below is one of many ‘updated’ prints available in shops in Amsterdam.

I saw another one where the milkmaid was so entranced by her own image that the milk missed the bowl and was spilling over the table.
