The Hoisting Beams On Dutch Houses

What do you do when you want to get large items to upper floors and the stairs are too narrow to accommodate them?

You have a hoisting beam built into the house, like you can see here. And sometimes just below that, where a window would be, you will see a black board that can be removed. And sometimes the window is there, and it too is designed to be removed.

In the second photo you can see a large bucket being hoisted, filled with whatever the builders who are renovating the building need for the job.

  1. Thanks for illuminating this process. It’s forever interesting how people concoct ways to deal with unusual circumstances!
