Hotel Room, Japan

Shot with Kodak Ultramax with a Minolta Freedom Escort film camera. The camera is very small and pocketable, which is why I took it to Japan.

I reviewed the camera in this post about pocket cameras and I am just now looking back at some of the photos and trying to figure out what kind of conditions suit film, or suit what I want to get out of it.

With digital cameras I find it difficult to get this moody look. Part of the ‘problem’ is that modern lenses are so sharp that the progression from in focus to out of focus is so abrupt that the parts of the image that are in focus can look pasted on to the background. The roll off, as it is called, is different with film cameras.

Now I want to hunt for older lenses that can accomplish what I want with digital without making the process so laborious that I just wouldn’t do it.
