Repurposing Hostile Vehicle Mitigation

In looking up the general term for barriers designed to prevent terrorists in vehicles getting near buildings, I discovered the wonderfully clumsy name of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation. I guess the common phrase would be ‘security barriers’ Either way, in this photo you can see three of them. One is clearly visible, the other two are visible between the legs of the men standing there.

They are blocking the way to St Paul’s Cathedral that you can see at the end of this short street.

They are drinking at the Paternoster Public House, and what I failed to photograph were the glasses of beer that the men had placed on the security barriers. So what was designed as a security measure became somewhere to park your beer.

  1. Wonderful, HAH!!! I recall you commenting about this as we passed this area, but lord: ‘Hostile vehicle mitigation,’ who the heck came up with that — and how many hours did it take them to arrive at it, eh?? Bonkers!
