ChatGPT Error

As I showed in a previous post, on a walk in London I came across the ‘Lying-In’ Hospital, that opened in 1767 and closed in 1971.

Lying-in means following the then current advice to mothers to have bed rest before and after giving birth. From there I thought of ‘lying in state’ such as happened with Queen Elizabeth II, where the bodies of deceased Heads of State are laid out publicly for people to pay their last respects.

And then it crossed my mind to wonder whether lying in state applies Pope Francis and to popes generally.

So I asked ChatGPT and here is what it said – and note how it didn’t skip a beat when it was corrected.

The moral of this story is to beware the answers given by LLMs to even the most straightforward questions.

  1. “Oops!” on ChatGPT’s head indeed!, great catch, David, and a valuable warning.
