You have probably seen Falun Gong protests, protesting against what they claim is the persecution and State harvesting of organs of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
The practitioners describe Falun Gong as a spiritual practice while the authorities decry it as a dangerous cult.
I have no idea how justified the claims are, but this particular protest was in the heart of Chinatown in London during the Chinese New Year festivities.
He and three others were protesting. Three of them were Chinese, and one was from the West. How did the Westerner with no obvious connection with China become involved? It’s funny. If there had been twenty Westerners protesting, would I have asked myself the question?
What really interests me are both related and not related to this man’s commitment. The clothes, the trainers – he doesn’t look like he is making a fashion statement. Well, maybe a bit. Equally, he could have acquired his clothes without thinking much about them.
But he had to have thought about the haircut. How did he come to decide to wear his hair this way? How does it relate to the forces that brought him out onto the street at this particular location and at this particular time?
