There was going to be a group photowalk on New Year’s Day. Had I looked at my WhatsApp messages I would have seen that it was cancelled because of the poor weather. But I didn’t look so I didn’t see the messages about the cancellation, but I decided not to take my big camera because the weather was so dull – and to take my little Ricoh only (wrong move).
When I got there, the Park was closed because of the risk of branches falling from high winds, but on the street people were dressed in costumes. it was the New Year’s Day parade and I took some shots.
With the 28mm lens on the Ricoh almost everything was too far away to make interesting shots, but a couple were OK-ish.

Why You Need A Viewfinder
The two women seemed to know where to look, but not so with a man in a Beetlejuice costume I saw twice that day. The first time was in Starbucks where I met a group from the University of West Kentucky. They came – 350 of them – and all tuba players. So you can estimate how many people overall there were at the parade.
Lesson learned – if I am specifically going to photograph then take the big camera,.
The second time I saw the man I photographed him with the camera held out in front of me at upper chest height and smiled at him and he smiled at me. But the photo shows him looking at a point higher than the lens of the camera, as of course it would because he was looking at my face.
