The women here are on the street in front of the Senate House of the University of Cambridge. They are photographing St Mary the Great Church, which is the church of the University of Cambridge.
By the rules of the University, officers must live within 20 miles of this church and undergraduates must live within three miles. The church dates from the 1200s, so it’s a magnet for photographers.
Imagine how many students and officers over the years must have been bound by the rule about where they live.. Today there are approximately 24,000 students split between undergraduates and postgraduates: So add that up over the hundreds of years. Of course some of the Colleges only go back a few decades but some go back to the 1200s.
Camera Stuff
I shot this with the Fuji X100F at ISO 640, at fl 5.6 and 1/500 second. The camera punches above its weight and I really can’t see that it is any less quality than the full frame Canon I am shooting.
2025
Here is to what experiences 2025 might bring for photography. And a happy new year to all.
