Man Cannot Will What He Wills

The photo of Schopenhauer was taken in March 1859, and Schopenhauer died in September the following year, aged 72.

Schopenhauer’s philosophy was that human life is essentially driven by an insatiable and irrational “will to live,” which leads to suffering.

One of his noted sayings is that:

“Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills.”

The assertion is part of Kabbalah, dating back some two thousand years.
