A Cloud Of Pollen In Action

What Is It

By smacking (carefully brushing) my fingers against the leaves of a yew treeI caused it to release a cloud of fine yellow dust made up of millions of pollen grains that the male cones of the tree have produced.

Pollen grains are dispersed by any slight movement or breeze, and that is how I saw the tree had pollen in the first place. As I rounded the bend in the path I saw what looked like yellow smoke from a fire travel across grass and across the path. I thought someone had lit a barbecue until I saw there was no one there and figured out what had happened.

How Was It Recorded

With my iPhone – of course.
