Jizo-In

Jizo-in is a Buddhist temple in Arashiyama, a residential district in the west of Kyoto. There is a small gate and then bamboo either side of a path that leads up to a small temple. Beyond that is a small house where visitors can sit and look out over the open side to a garden in Japanese style.

What does it mean ‘Japanese style’? It means that it is carefully made to look as though it just grew, with leaning trees, rocks, moss covered ground. The open side of the house has an upper section through which light enters gently. And beyond the garden, the bamboo forest.

  1. Ahhhh, it was such a lovely place, particularly as we escaped the tourists in Kyoto.

Such a perfect place to reflect… 🌺 I particularly love your last photo here of the glorious bamboo.
