Women’s Fashion in Japan

This fashionable woman is wearing a coat with a pinched but billowing section at the back reminiscent of the obi and binding on the back of traditional kimono.

My wife Tamara would make a much better job of describing women’s fashion because she is observant and I generally don’t notice what people are wearing. But the lace and frilly skirts and dresses that women wear on the street are so very different from what you would see in the UK that they stand out.

This woman in a (probably) rented kimono has put a modern twist on the ensemble by having it topped off with a little hat. I wonder whether that was her choice or suggested by the rental company?

Hold The Fan This Way

We saw lots of women and men in Kyoto dress up in kimono. When the blossom appeared we saw lots of women and men in costume pose against a backdrop of cherry blossom to have their photographs taken.

At Eikan Do

This young woman and her companion took turns at photographing one another and the temple grounds at Eikan Do. The parked their handbags in the corner of the room while they posed and photographed.

Posing With Cherry Blossom

Posing for a photograph, the chances are that this young woman is a tourist wearing a kimono rented from one of the shops we saw advertising kimonos for rent. I imagine the handbag she is holding is also rented.
