Eikan-Do Temple in Kyoto

stream with trees at Eikan-Do Temple in Kyoto

A little stream at Eikan-do cho temple complex in Kyoto with little bridges connecting the buildings.

Eikan-do pronounced EEK-AN-DOUGH and not as we tried to explain when asking for directions – with blank looks from a taxi driver wondering where we wanted to go. Therefore always handy to write down the name in English and Japanese, for which the Drafts app for Mac and iPhone is perfect because it copies text in multiple languages.

The first thing that came to my mind was a game we had when I was little, called Ike-A-Doo. I never knew what the name meant. It had hard plastic pieces that you used to build weird creatures. I loved those things.

    1. Haha, and it reminded me of Kan-U-Go, – a word-making game with playing cards that was popular when I was a kid.

Western made-up words to sound foreign?

  3. I so admire the tenacity of this tree… Layer, upon layer, upon layer of roots to maintain its tenuous grip upon and between this pile of rocks.
