Chrysanthemum Petals

These are from the flower stall in the market in Market Square here in Cambridge. I was attracted to them because I had never seen such dark petals on a chrysanthemum. To my eye the way the petals are curved over makes them look like bananas or some kind of nut, or something with a shell, In fact they are delicate.

The petals are huge, by the way.

  1. And just look at the deep burgundy of its leaves too, David!
I had one of these only in shades of apricot given as part of an arrangement in the fall of ‘22 and the largest petals were the size and shape of Cashews. It outlasted most of the other blooms and became part of a dried bouquet which I kept inside all of last winter and then went out to the verandah where it’s been ever since… (Although the winter winds are coming and it will finally need to grace the compost bin… :/)
    Such an absolutely amazing flower!❤️

    1. Thank you for filling in the missing piece – Yes, that’s what they remind me of – cashews.

    1. Thanks for that great link. I think the nearest are ‘Chrysanthemum Squires Lock’. My bunch were about two feet long stems. I spoke with the woman at the stall because one or two bunches were simply called ‘blooms’. She agreed that all flowers are blooms, but explained that it was the term they used for flowers with just one head.
