The preface to Cato’s 1940 book Guilty Men
On a spring day in 1793 a crowd of angry men burst their way through the doors of the assembly room where the French Convention was in session. A discomforted figure addressed them from the rostrum. “What do the people desire?” he asked. “The Convention has only their welfare at heart.” The leader of the angry crowd replied. “The people haven’t come here to be given a lot of phrases. They demand a dozen guilty men.”
A video has sufaced, splashed all over Twitter and the Sunday Express of staff at the Conservative Party HQ dancing away. Meanwhile under the rules established by the partygoers, the county was in lockdown. People were not allowed to visit dying loved ones and 400+ people a day were dying of COVID.
To cap it all, some of those partying were promoted to the Lords or given Honours by the man who was Prime Minister at the time and knew of the parties and attended them.
He is the Prime Minister who has subsequently been kicked out of Parliament for lying to the House.
Meanwhile, we have new laws in the UK prohibiting protests that disrupt the day to day business of the country.
I can feel my feelings rise about this.
You can’t see the dancing from this screen shot so CLICK THE IMAGE TO SEE THE VIDEO ON TWITTER – and retweet the hell out of it.
