Tobias Wolfe at the book signing after a talk at the Edinburgh Book Festival a couple of years ago. Eighteen months later and I decided to add a few words. I looked up his collections of short stories and see that Hunters in the Snow was first published in 1981.
I am amazed: I don’t see how that can be. I am convinced I read it at an earlier stage of my life, in different circumstances. And that The Barracks Thief was published in 1984. Amazing to me that I was reading these books then; I thought I was heavily involved in getting ahead.
