Project 365: Day 5

Tartan And Conifers

Tartan And Conifers

Lots of houses in the upmarket New Town area of Edinburgh have had Christmas wreaths pinned on their front doors over the holiday period. It’s not something I have seen before and wonder whether it is a particularly Scottish tradition.

I particularly liked this one with conifer leaves and cones local to this region, and a tartan ribbon.

In contrast, this wreath reminds me more of Easter…

  1. I don’t know why, but when I look at these I see the difference between the traditional view of Christmas – and the Pagan/Wiccan view.

Christmas is a reformed Pagan holiday. Perhaps the residents of the second door – honor this.

    1. You may have something there. There is certainly nothing ‘dressed up’ about the twisted branches.

  2. This is so pretty. I am glad I am getting to know you David, you have been one of the kind ones to stop by my blog..and make comments…also…my camera which is new by the way, has to be returned…so I take on this challenge of photo a day and have to compromise, or be creative…lol…if anyone knows its my family…I don’t do photos that is why I took on this challenge.

    1. I think photography is a bit like writing a best-seller: The only qualification to writing a best seller is to write it! So with photography – I think the best thing to do is to take lots and lots and lots (and lots) of pictures until you feel you know what you want and why you want it. Just keep taking pictures.

Best of luck with the camera when you get it back (or its replacement).
