The increase in the cost of energy is making people angry because the energy companies are making huge profits while energy costs are set to triple. People do not have the money, and if something isn’t done then more than a million people will be destitute this winter – choosing between heating and eating.
The Government sets the maximum amount suppliers can charge customers but will not act to curb the costs. The Government is at its weakest now, with a caretaker prime minister until the new leader is chosen in September. There is a tipping point beyond which people will see opposition as a better choice than grumbling, and the Government seems like it is sleep walking towards civil unrest.
