Before Tamara and I went to Warminster and Winchester, I was speaking with a friend who used to live in that part of the country. He suggested things to see and do when we were in the Warminster area, and recommended a visit to Stourhead (which I wrote about here).
Tamara and I looked for a place to stay and settled on the Spread Eagle Inn at Stourton. What we didn’t realise was that the inn is actually on the Stourhead estate. In fact, this is the view when one walks a few yards down the road from the inn.
Now looking at the photo, it makes me think of paintings of the period when the gardens were landscaped and the pantheon on the other side of the lake was built.
