Tamara And The Red Deer

The Red deer at Longleat Safari Park in the south-west of England are not tame. They are wild animals, it is just that they know that the visitors come with food. The visitors buy cups of pellets at the little stand, and park on the grass. The deer know that when a cupped hand comes out, they can eat. Once the pellets run out, the deer move away.

The pleasure for us is the opportunity to be very close to a deer.

Thanks so much for posting about our experience, David. Ah, and there you were, doing precisely the same thing on the other side of the car, may I add to your reminisces here.

What I remember the most was how delicate and soft the deer’s tongue and body movements were. But sure, those deer are very used to humans. Otherwise, no doubt they would never venture so close – no matter how tasty those pellets we humans feed them are!
