I took this photograph about a year ago at a deer park in the Scottish Borders. Writing this reminds me that I read somewhere that paradise is a corruption of the Sanskrit words ‘para desh’ meaning a deer park.
The last image here is of the deer on a greeting card with the wording ‘Congratulations on the new addition’.
At the moment, the card is just a digital file in the ‘Possibles’ folder – which means that we will live with the design for a few days and then decide whether to use it as a card for a new baby and add it to our card ranges.
En route somewhere I saw this and immediately wanted to photograph it. It was the washing on the line that grabbed my eye, and it wasn’t until I put the shot up on my screen that I saw the tree stumps.

If you ask me why I like the image, it’s because it is life unadorned. It is life lived.
