Avoid buyer’s remorse…
Pay with a tweet to get this impartial guide to choosing a digital camera. Find out what to look out for in a camera and how to test the features before you buy.
I don’t suggest any brands. In fact, I hardly mention brands at all – just what to look out for with ANY camera.
You will find the download link at the bottom of the article.
Sure could have used a guide like that back in 2004, when we bought our very first! I didn’t know the difference between optical and digital zoom, for starters. It all happened too fast, and I think the sales argument that you got a nice printer with it, did the thing for me. When I’d upwrapped it, I started to look for the ‘tulip’ that I’d seen on the work camera (!) … tulip, meaning the macro setting on the dial 🙂

Thanks, TT,
Yes – WP.com stripped out part of the code. 😦
I added the link back directly into the article.

Very well written and, well, practical! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. I’m one of those who made the switch from a large camera to small and while I miss the 18x optical zoom, it is the camera that I have with me. 🙂

Thanks Jen,
I take the little micro 4/3 Olympus with me a lot more than I take the Nikon with me. Were it not for the occasional need for the reach of the 450mm equivalent lens on the Nikon, I would use it even less.
